Bangor fielded a strong team and overwhelmed the visitors from mid Wales who fielded a young team. It was sombre setting for the game with all the players lining up for a minutes silence for the club’s treasurer Alwyn Hughes who died suddenly at home and would have enjoyed seeing his team gain a winning bonus point to keep them in mid position of the league.

Welshpool started vigorously and Bangor has to defend hard for a time but getting hold of the ball their backs broke away and forward Gruff Tudur was up in support to get the first of his 4 tries. His second came soon after when Nick Dundee put a penalty to the corner and from the line out Tudur forced his way over. This tactic was repeated another two times this time Bangor’s new No.7 Andrew Curbi got over and then prop Karl Roberts. The back division wanted to show their paces too and No. 10 Nick Dundee beat the defenders to score.

The second half started quietly until Bangor started running the ball and new centre George Redwood scored a try followed by Anthony Kirkham supporting the backs. Winger Gethin Jones added another try flying down the touchline followed by full back Cameron Owen always a danger with the ball in hand. Gruff Tudur scored next followed by Cameron Owen again and finally Tudur got his fourth try picking up at the back of the scrum and going over. Nick Dundee added 7 conversions in all.
