Bangor 14 - 62 Rhyl

WRU BOWL ROUND 2

SATURDAY OCTOBER 7th 2017

BANGOR 18 – 42 RHYL

Bangor could not field their strongest team for this cup game and despite surging ahead early on with 2 Nick Dundee penalties they went down to a heavy defeat. Rhyl went ahead with a try that started at the back of the line out and added the conversion and 2 penalties to lead 6 – 13 at half time. Bangor captain Ryan Butler must have thought they were still well in the game but the second half saw them penalised for many errors and unable to provide any continuity. Rhyl scored another 6 tries capitalising on Bangor’s errors but there were times when Bangor got some momentum in the scrums with Gruff Tudur providing a good platform and they came near to scoring a push over try. When they strung their passes together they were rewarded with a fine try from winger Gethin Jones and full back Steffan Owen. Rhyl had 7 try scorers Jason Blackmore, Matt Hession, Drew Roberts, Tan Jones, Callum Morris, Greg Proffitt and Jack Symes with Ben Syme adding a penalty and 2 conversions.

Bangor youth got a big victory at Holyhead winning 14 – 62 so the club still has plenty of talent coming through.
