A Draw with Colwyn Bay

WRU DIVISION 2 N
SATURDAY JANUARY 25th
BANGOR 22 – 22 COLWYN BAY

Bangor produced a surprise finish to draw an exciting game at Cae Milltir. The game looked to be lost at one stage but the spirit of the team saw them rally at the end in spectacular form. An early penalty from Harry Powell-Jones let them lead for most of the first half with both teams running at each other until Colwyn Bay broke the impasse with a try scored and converted by centre Sam Hill Jones. They remained on top in the second period and Jones added a penalty and a converted try. The Citizens fought back and Sam Hughes was prevented from grounding the ball by a tackle around the neck and the referee had no hesitation awarding a penalty try to make the score 10 -17. With a one man advantage Bangor should have got on top but the visitors again added an unconverted try through Sam Hill Jones and looked for a winning bonus point however Bangor had other ideas and started throwing the ball wide and beating off the tackles winger Dyfed Roberts added an unconverted try to earn a losing bonus point. With time for a restart Bangor again ran at the opposition and this time Steffan Owen left tacklers strewn on the floor in his wake as he went in close enough to the posts for Powell-Jones to convert and get a draw.
