Bangor Win Cup Game

BANGOR 31 – 22 MOLD 2nd TEAM

Bangor put in a competent performance against stiff opposition from Mold to make it through the first round of the WRU Cup. They started enthusiastically setting up a rolling maul and then moving it wide for full back Steffan Owen to score a try. Mold hit back with a penalty but Bangor quickly replied with a breakaway run and a well timed pass to Tom O’Brien to run in under the posts and Steffan Owen converted. Bangor were well on top at this stage and the pack set up a good position drawing the defence in and then the ball was sent wide to  Sean Griffiths who added a try to give them a half time lead of 17 -3.

Bangor gave away many penalties throughout the game and this continued in the second half allowing Mold to keep them defending and a good ruck from the visitors saw them across the try line to close the gap.  Bangor got play back into the visitors half and responded with a lineout maul putting hooker Sam Hughes over to restore the score line. Bangor had a bad period of play from this point and Mold got the upper hand running in two tries and a conversion to narrow the gap to 2 points. The Citizens might have panicked but kept their cool and another lineout maul enabled Kevin Roberts to get the ball down and Owens’ conversion sealed the game.
