BANGOR 27 – 17 COLWYN BAY

VIDEO OF THE TWO PUSHOVER TRIES

Bangor ended their league campaign on a high with a decisive win over Colwyn Bay. This was their first home game in 11 weeks and they fielded a strong team led by Captain Ryan Butler. Back row forward Tom Yardley was in fine form and returned to his scoring ways after a long absence with injury and scored a hat trick of tries. Bangor started the game in dominant form and with plenty of ball in hand but took 15 minutes to score their first try when Yardley went over from a pressure scrum converted by .No.10 Mathew Roberts. Another 15 minutes passed before Roberts added to the score with a penalty. The visitors made progress into Bangor territory with the kick off and quickly added a penalty of their own from Henry Morris. A frustrating period either side of half time saw Bangor start to lose their dominance and were unable to dispossess the Bay of the ball. Into the second period the visitors somehow turned a scrum into a maul and Harry Jones got over the line and the conversion from Henry Morris drew the scores level. Bangor found their form again and started to exert dominance in the scrums. Forcing a series of scrums near the corner they succeeded in walking the ball over the line for another try from Yardley. In an ill tempered period of the game Bangor repeated the try on the other side of the pitch and Yardley got his hat trick. Desperate to get back into the game the Bay tried to run the ball from deep in their own half but substitute wing forward Tom Davies intercepted the ball and went in under the posts. Calvin Williams added the conversion. The Bay had not given up trying to turn things around and with time in hand got the ball deep in the Bangor half and Lloyd Jones went over for a try converted by Harry Jones. Bangor held their nerves and played out the last 5 minutes for a deserved win.
