WRU Division 2 N

Bangor 5 – 20 Rhyl

Rhyl climbed to 1 point behind Bangor in division 2 North with a win they ground out at Cae Milltir. Bangor had enough of the game to win and their forwards were dominant in the scrums but the magic finishing touch was missing and lady fortune failed to smile on them. Rhyl took an early lead using a penalty kick to set up a line and No. 10 Richie Williams crossed for a try converted by full back Harri Thomas. Bangor quickly replied after Nick Dundee disposed Rhyl in a tackle and the recycled ball went to Bangor’s hooker Sam Hughes who went over in the corner. Thomas added a penalty for Rhyl but they could have scored two more tries but for handling errors. The half ended 5 – 10.

Bangor had the best of the second half territorially and only the hard Rhyl defence prevented them scoring. Cameron Owen made several runs from fall back but was barged off the ball when he chased his kick ahead. Winger Gethin Jones also had a few runs but Rhyl was always there to make the tackle. Thomas added another penalty to increase their lead and with game slipping away Bangor tried to attack from deep in their own half but a dropped ball was hacked over the line and scrum half Tom Jones just got a hand to it before Bangor to seal the game with a converted try.
