WELSHPOOL 35 - BANGOR 17    SATURDAY MAY 15th
Bangor travelled 100 miles in the scorching heat to play their final match of the season ( their seventh consecutive away game ) and when they arrived at Welshpool there was enough grass on the home side's pitch to keep a large herd of cattle well fed for days .
It all started disappointingly for Bangor when a controversial score was allowed to stand .From a quick tap-penalty by the visitors the home side had never retreated the required 10 meters when they turned the ball over, but play was allowed to continue and the host's roly-poly tight head prop went over . The outside half  completed the score .

For the next fifteen minutes it was all Bangor and right wing Gethin Jones went over but the try was disallowed for a forward pass and minutes later he was unlucky again when he was pulled down just short of the line. However constant pressure produced an inevitable score and a marvelous break by  Owen Humphreys saw the elusive centre jinking his way over for a fine unconverted try .Bangor now on song scored again when live wire flanker Meurig Jones made several meters with some powerful running before slipping a slick pass to scrum half John Raby ( now Lord Brockitt ) and the peerless number nine raced ahead unchallenged for a fine individual try . Hooker Alun ( Mini Me ) Jones duly converted .

A Bangor missed tackle wide out proved costly when the home side's tight head went over again for a try converted by his outside half .
The second half started with a quick breakaway try by Welshpool 's left winger which was converted this time by the outside centre who himself added a fine try of his own moments later .He succeeded with the conversion .
Jonathan ( Kebab ) Kargiotis pulled one back for the seasiders from close range after a strong rally by the pack to complete their scoring for the day.

Bangor lost flanker Ringo Wu with an ankle injury ten minutes from the end and with no travelling reserves available for various reasons the visitors 14 men conceded one final score when the Welshpool pack drove over for one of their forwards to score a converted try .

After a marathon season it is now a well earned rest for some of the players .A side has been entered in the Llangoed sevens and training will continue once a week for the players in this squad .

COLWYN BAY 23 -  BANGOR 14    Saturday May 1st    Division 5 North

Bangor went into this match resolved to put in a good performance and looked like causing a league upset when they went into a 14 point lead. First prop forward Robin Jones drove over from a lineout move and then centre Neil Williams intercepted a pass and raced 50 meters to score a fine try. Both were converted by Owen Humphries. Bangor continued to put up a stout defence and denied the Bay pack a pushover try by holding them up on the line. When flanker Henry Jacobs had to leave the field with a twisted ankle their cover defence was severely depleted. Colwyn Bay gradually eroded the lead first with a penalty from Hayden Phillips and then a try from  Steve Davidson crossing from the left wing to the right to make an overlap.

Turning around with a slender lead of 4 points Bangor continued to show stiff resolve and the game became increasingly bad tempered resulting in Mark Pritchard being selected by the referee for a yellow card following an outbreak of fighting. Phillips further reduced the lead to 1 point with a penalty and then the game was held up for 40 minutes when Colwyn Bay's full back received a serious arm injury in a crunching tackle. Soon after the restart Bangor were caught cold by a simple short kick over head down the blind side. This was gathered by Mike Hughes and despite apparently putting a foot in touch, he got away for a try. Bangor then suffered another serious blow when key player Sam Jordan was taken down and emerged from under a pile of defenders with serious facial injuries. The ambulance was recalled to take him to hospital in a semi conscious state. Colwyn Bay grabbed another try through Llew Williams but Bangor finished strong and winger Robert Eston was unlucky not to score in the corner.

BANGOR UNIVERSITY  7-  BANGOR 66 Tuesday April 27th    Division 5 North

The game was played at a furious pace by both sides and the University provided good opposition in the opening rounds but they came across a Bangor side showing a rare mean streak of aggression in their play. Bangor were stimulated into playing a powerful fast game and opened the score with a penalty from Mathew Baston. Soon after Henry Jacobs, having the game of his life, broke from the back of the lineout and powered over for a converted try. With their forwards getting them plenty of ball, Bangor's backs enjoyed a field day. Centre Alan Owen scored next completing a run started by Sam Jordan coming in off the wing.  Sam Jordan scored two more tries before half time making the score  0 -23.

The second half saw Henry Jacobs and Sam Jordan cross again and then outside half Irfon Williams got in on the act. Alan Owen and scrum half John Raby added more tries and then the University got on the board with a converted try from their centre. Bangor's pack got in on the act with a pushover try and John Kargiotis got the touch down. Substitute wing Aled Jones converted. Bangor rounded off the game with a fine try from winger Robert Eston.

MACHYNLLETH 39  - BANGOR 22    Saturday April 24th    Division 5 North

Lack of fitness cost Bangor this rearranged match. They were in control in the first half and should have led by a wider margin at the interval .It was Machynlleth however who opened the scoring from a penalty by their fly half after Bangor were penalised for barging in the lineout .Bangor's own fly half , Irfon Williams , levelled the score minutes later with a drop goal in front of the posts. By now the visitors looked like they could run away with the game only for silly errors and one or two wrong options when a score looked a formality . When Machynlleth lost their open side flanker to the sin bin right on half time , Owen Humphreys playing out of position at full back booted  a massive kick to touch yards from the host's try line , and from the resulting line out Bangor were held up several times before Donald Hughes ,playing tight head in the absence of skipper Devlin Roberts, finally touched down for a well deserved score .Humphreys completed the score with the conversion .It looked promising for a good second half when a powerful drive down the touchline by Sam Jordan on the wing saw the ball reaching Meurig Jones who dummied his way to the try line from half way for an excellent score which went unconverted .

At 15-3 Bangor looked comfortable but when they lost their own throw in at the line out the ball was spread out wide to the home side's right wing who evaded a couple of poor tackles and went in at the corner. The conversion went wide .Bangor nevertheless  replied immediately when the evergreen Huw " Chink " Roberts burst through from short range to increase the scoreline to 22-8 after Humphreys converted. After this Bangor let themselves down with poor defence when Mach's substitute went over in the corner for a try that was superbly converted from the touchline and minutes later a penalty was awarded against the visitors for being offside in the middle and the home side's stand-off added a simple 3 points It was now all Mach and only sterling tackling from dynamic flanker Henry Jacobs kept the score down. On song and now in full command the men from Powys scored three times with no bother to clinch a convincing victory in the end. Scores coming from their diminutive scrum half , fly half and front rower all converted by the stand off.

BANGOR 15 - BRO FFESTINIOG 10    Saturday February 7th    Division 5 North

Referee Mr. R Jenkins

Bangor dominated most of the game but stern defence from Bro kept them from scoring and a win was in doubt right to the end. Bangor attacked from the start and an early move saw full back Mathew Baston enter the back line and set winger Sam Jordan off down the touch line. He then took the return pass only to be bundled into touch at the corner flag. Within a minute Ringo Wu on the other wing almost made the try line but was also tackled into the corner. It took Bangor 15 minutes before they made the pressure tell. From a line out on the half way line, flanker Dylan Dobson Jones broke through the ranks and took the ball to the try line where a maul resulted and prop Robin Jones got the try as they drove over.

Bro came back with a sustained period of attacks but Bangor's defence was equally as good. Both sides made many handling errors but neither side capitalised on them. Bro dominated the lineout as Bangor failed to find their target with their throw in but Bangor dominated the scrums and made it difficult for Bro to get the ball away. Captain, Hayden Williams, resorted to picking the ball up in the back row and dodging about behind the scrum he set up a ruck in mid field and then their outside half E Roberts made a great break and put in a kick to the corner. Winger Dan Jones had the pace to get to the ball first and drop on it for a try.

Bangor started the second half with an attack from centres Alan Owen and Neil Williams who seemed to be through but fine cover defence stopped them. Then taking the ball from a maul, the ball went to outside half Owen Humphrys and then taken on by Dobson Jones it went to Sam Jordan on the wing who stormed through the tacklers and when brought down close to the line he reached out with one hand for a try. Bro came back with a series of rucks and mauls and Hayden Williams got close to the line several times. Their try came after taking a scrum against the head in mid field and outside half Roberts put a well judged kick to the corner and Dan Jones got to it first and hacked it on over the line before getting a hand on it for a try. With the game all square Bangor threw everything into attack and forced the play to Bro's try line and with a great drive over the line, front row Donald Hughes and second row Hugh (Chink) Roberts both got the ball down.

LLANIDLOES 10 - BANGOR 11 Saturday October 4th 2003   WRU Division 5 North

With both teams desperate for their first win, over enthusiasm proved to be the downfall for Llanidloes when they gave away too many penalties in their efforts to stop Bangor gaining possession at the scrums. Outside half Owen Humphries kicked two of them inside the first 12 minutes but despite this Bangor spent most of the time in their own half as the game became a forward battle with Bangor having the advantage in the scrums and Llanidloes dominating the line outs. The backs on both sides saw very little of the ball as the forwards fought for possession. Prop Robin Jones had to leave the field with a back injury and was substituted by Alun Jones. Bangor missed the chance to increase their lead with a penalty just before half time.

The second half was dominated by Llanidloes in the loose and the line outs. Strong tackling from captain Devlin Roberts supported by the back row, Dobson Jones, Aled Hughes and Ian Foster, stopped them getting far with their attempts to break away from the mauls. Bangor got in a good touch kick following a penalty and took the lineout. For the first time they sent good ball out to the centre where Iestyn Hampson Jones cut a clean swathe through the defence to score a great try. Bangor looked home and dry with an 11 point lead but Llanidloes continued to batter them and Bangor saw little more of the ball. The flanker for Llanidloes continued to make trouble for Bangor making several darting runs through massed Bangor players. Helped by some missed tackles, one such move ended in a drive over the line with outside half Marius Jerling in the thick of it getting an unconverted try. Bangor were unlucky with a penalty attempt by Hampson Jones that hit the upright and a 50 metre attempt from the touch line just fell short. Llanidloes continued to roll and maul their way to the Bangor line. Desperate defence kept them at bay and more penalty kicks helped Bangor to relieve the pressure. Five minutes from the end the referee yellow carded a Bangor forward for a professional foul but the defence looked as though it would hold firm to the end. Then right at the death, Llanidloes broke the back line and centre Thomas Nicholas crossed for the try. Bangor held their breath as the conversion attempt went wide and the referee blew his whistle for full time.
