BANGOR 9 - 43 NEWTOWN
Bangor let the visitors run in 3 late tries to make the score look one sided but they were only 6 - 14 down at the interval. The pack led by player-coach Aled Hughes put in a sterling performance and set panic in the visitors ranks at times. They created several good scoring chances but the inability to get the ball to the line showed again. All Bangor's points came from the boot of Jonni Hughes.

MACHYNLLETH 26 - 0 BANGOR
DIVISION 2N
In a hard fought match Bangor conceded 3 early penalties for the hosts to lead 9-0 after fifteen minutes and it was the visitor's constant infringements that were keeping Machynlleth going forward. When a Bangor player was yellow carded the home side scored their first try to lead 14-0 at the interval.
Two further yellows saw Bangor play with 13 men at one stage and the home side added two more tries to earn themselves some valuable league points. The city lads never gave up and tackled their hearts out throughout and with a bit more luck could have contributed to the scoreboard. They certainly never gave up.There are tougher games ahead with Newtown at Cae Milltir being the next match on the 5th March.
The club will be showing the Wales v Italy match on the Big Screen next Saturday -kick-off 2.30pm. Everyone welcome. Refreshments will be available.
BANGOR 24 - 5 HOLYHEAD
Bangor put some new talent on display and although Holyhead made it tough for them, the new found speed in the backs and drive in the pack gave them a good win. Holyhead opened the scoring with an unconverted try. Bangor were plagued by penalties in the early stages but managed to get two converted tries in the first half thanks to the determined running inn the three quarters. In the second half they scored again through the pack picking and driving their way over the line. A fourth try followed with more fine running in the backs. At the end they seemed to have scored a push over try from a scrummage but it was disallowed for a knock on as they dropped on the ball.
BANGOR 11 - 17 WREXHAM
It was good to see Sean Williams return from college to play at scrum half and pair up with Darren Brace at outside half. More commitment was shown by Jonni Hughes travelling from Uni in Cardiff to play in the centre. Bangor had some weight in the pack with Tony Williams returning to the front row to go with Wil Withey and youth player Karl Roberts. With Gruff Tudor and Gareth Roberts adding their weight Bangor had expectations of doing well.
The game was played in atrocious conditions that got worse as the game progressed. Bangor played the first half into the wind and rain. Starting in a positive mood they came close to scoring a try soon after the kick off but were denied by a knock on. When they tried spinning it wide soon after, Wrexham centre Jack Radcliff took a simple interception and ground the ball under the post for Roger Chadwick to convert. With little to choose between the teams Bangor managed to strike back with a Jonni Hughes penalty. Bangor would have been happy with this score line at half time but true to form they gave away a try with the last move of the half when Wrexham had a tap penalty and fed Ian Sanger to cross for another converted try.
The wind direction shifted to across the field during the break. Bangor played most of the half in the Wrexham 22 m area and had several penalties awarded in their favour. Hughes hit the upright with the first, potted the second and narrowly missed the uprights with the next two. Bangor's coach Aled Hughes donned a shirt to join son Jonni for the last 10 minutes of the game, a day they will both always remember. With long periods rucking on the try line Bangor really should have scored several times and eventually forward Huw Williams took a pass from a tap penalty and crossed the line for an unconverted try. The conversion just went wide and Wrexham made the game safe with a Chadwick penalty under the posts at the end of the game.

BANGOR 13 - 16 WELSHPOOL
This was a must win game for Bangor but everything went wrong once again as they lost the lead and the game with the final kick.
Playing into the wind and rain in the first half Bangor did well to finish the half level through a Jonni Hughes penalty cancelled out by one from the visitors.
With the wind behind them all Bangor had to do was play as well as in the first half and they soon scored two tries through forwards Gruff Tudur and Gareth Roberts in the wet and muddy conditions. Hughes and Roberts both left the field with injuries and without a strong kicker Bangor missed two kickable penalties. A loss of discipline saw a barrage of penalties against the home team frequently progressed 10 meters by the referee for back chat and this enabled Welshpool to work their way to the Bangor line against the wind. They scored a try from a pushover scrum and then drew level with another try. Bangor's cruel luck saw them hit the upright with a penalty and then the visitors took the match with a penalty under the posts being the last kick of the game.
BANGOR 9 - 29 DOLGELLAU
Its nearly a month since the last game and this one was switched to Bangor who fielded a strong squad. Bangor dominated the first half and created many good scoring chances but were rewarded only with two penalties from Jonni Hughes. The visitors made very few visits to the Bangor half of the field and still managed to wrestle their way over for a try but Bangor led 6 - 5 at half time.
The second half saw Bangor take the offensive again and increased their lead with an early Hughes penalty. After that the game was turned on its head. Suddenly Bangor started failing to find touch and Dolgellau started to catch the ball and Bangor imploded letting in 4 more tries and two conversions.

BANGOR 16 - 37 MACHYNLLETH
This was a desperately disappointing result for Bangor who fielded a team that on paper should have won but maybe the uncontested scrums worked against them. Bangor were faced with a barrage of penalties and scrums against them and Machynlleth made best use of the ball with their back line taking advantage of some slack tackling to score 5 tries. Bangor started well with a try from flanker Dave Oxley but that was as good as it got. Going into the break 8 - 17 down there was always hope for the home team but the visitors soon dispelled that with another try and added two in quick succession. Bangor did create plenty of scoring opportunities but seem to lack the confidence to finish them off. Towards the end Gareth Roberts got a consolation try wrestling his way to the line. Outside half Dafydd Roberts had earlier contributed two penalties.
BANGOR 2nds 15 - 14 DOLGELLAU 2nds
Bangor dominated the early stages scoring a quick try from winger Rhodri Llewellyn Williams but despite creating many good scoring positions when they should have put the game beyond doubt, they lacked the finishing touch and ended the first half with a lead of only 5 points.
Dolgellau had more ball and dogged resistance meant they were always in the game but Bangor eventually got a second try with a bout of accurate passing putting winger Thibault Lloyd over for a try converted by Dafydd Roberts. The visitors came back hard and were rewarded with their first score, a converted try. A penalty from Roberts restored the lead to 8 points which turned out to be vital when Dolgellau scored another converted try near the end to get within a single point.
DENBIGH 41 - 17 BANGOR
Bangor were able to field a stronger team this week and provide the league leaders with a competitive game that gives them hope of better things to come. Denbigh ran in 4 tries in the first half and led 22 - 0 at the break but Bangor came out fighting in the second half with the slope and breeze in their favour and took the game to the home side resulting in a try from centre Nick O'Keefe converted by Jonni Hughes. Denbigh caught Bangor asleep and replied with another try but Bangor continued to press and came close to scoring a few times before they were rewarded with try from winger Hugh Llewelyn-Jones and Hugh's touchline conversion reduced the deficit to 29 - 14. With a bit more luck and better finishing Bangor might have produced a surprise result especially when a move that should have seen them cross the line saw them turned over and the home team broke away for a try that knocked the wind out of their sails. Running out of steam they leaked another tries at the end to give Denbigh a slightly flattering score line.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 9th
ABERGELE 58 - 6 BANGOR
SWALEC BOWL
The half time score was 20 - 3 with a penalty from Nick O'Keefe but the boys ran out of steam in the second half and leaked 6 more tries with just another penalty in reply. Gruff Tudur was outstanding in the pack but needed more support.

NEWTOWN 63 - 13 BANGOR
The score was 39 - 13 at half time with Bangor getting two tries. The home team scored 7 tries in total.
WREXHAM 29 – BANGOR 3
WRU DIVISION 2 N
Wrexham found Bangor a hard nut to crack despite what the score line suggests. A late first half converted try put the hosts ahead 7-3 at the interval & Bangor were still right in there with a shout. It wasn't to be however with the home side adding 4 more tries (one converted) in the second period but the Bangor youngsters never gave in and had to tackle like demons right 'till the end . The weather was absolutely atrocious throughout & with better luck the city boys could have added to their tally because their efforts were faultless .Their sole points were scored by outside half Dafydd Llewelyn.
BANGOR 0 - 41 LLANIDLOES
LEAGUE 2N
Bangor made a game of it in the first half thanks to some good tackling in the backs and tight play by the forwards. The score was limited 10 points with a penalty and converted try against them. The second half saw them start well enough but in a golden spell when everything went right for the visitors and aided by a barrage of penalties, they showed great form running in 5 tries. Bangor were clearly tiring in the later stages but never gave up.
Scorers for Llanidloes were:
Adam price - penalty
James Plumridge - Try
James Davies - 2 Tries
James Griffiths - try and 4 conversions
Paul Jehu - Try
Ben Davies - try

BANGOR 3 - 39 ABERGELE
LEAGUE 2N
Newly promoted Abergele announced their arrival in league 2N this season with an impressive display of power that stopped Bangor ever really getting into the game. Bangor were not helped by the absence of their captain with an injury during training and the loss of talented centre Llyr Roberts to casualty to have his head stitched. The home team only managed one in five penalty attempts from Jonni Hughes but none of them were easy. Abergele ran in 3 tries in the first half and two in the second with their kicker on form adding two penalties and 4 conversions.

BANGOR 9 - 31 COLWYN BAY
A good pre-season warm up game for Bangor who almost held their own in the first half. The half time score was 6 - 12 with two Jonni Hughes penalties for Bangor and two tries to the Bay. The second half saw lots of substitutions and Bangor were unable to get the ball and use their talented backs. The Bay regularly won turn over ball and had the lion's share of possession. Bangor added another penalty but the Bay added three more tries.

THURSDAY AUGUST 12th
FRIENDLY DEVELOPMENT GAME
BANGOR 29 v 0 BENLLECH
Bangor made a good start in their preparation for the new season welcoming home many ex players and existing players. With their large squad they were able to make many changes in the four periods of the game. Benllech, newly promoted to division 3, proved to be a tough nut to crack and kept Bangor defending hard for the first period. Gradually Bangor got on top and Craig Pritchard broke the deadlock when he ran the ball from full back and beat a few defenders to touch down. Monaghan converted. The next try was finished by right winger Huw Humphreys. Dan Davies got in on the act with a left winger's try converted by Daffydd Roberts. In the final session Pete Froment scored a try moving to the left wing and Huw Humphreys added another.
