 SATURDAY JANUARY 14th 2012

BANGOR 12 - RHOS 74

Bangor showed flashes of what can be with two outstanding individual tries from No.8 Ashley Randell and some good performances from Joe Adamson, Euros Thomas and a string of raw recruits. Bangor actually stemmed the flow of tries in the second half and would have had a more respectable score but the referee carded two Bangor players for the 10 minutes of injury time and Rhos turned the screw for a string of late tries.

 SATURDAY JANUARY 7th 2012

BANGOR 8 – MENAI BRIDGE 26

WRU Division 3 North

VIDEO

Bangor are yet to win a league game this season and looked like producing a surprise result leading 8 – 7 at the break but running out of steam in the second half. The home team had most of the possession and territory but Menai Bridge held out for 35 minutes and then in their first visit into Bangor’s half they produced a good attack leading to veteran forward Frank Rushton getting a try converted by outside half Iwan Roberts. Only then did Bangor show their potential setting up a good back attack and their centre also called Iwan Roberts crossed for an unconverted try. Soon after Bangor’s outside half Darren Brace, back from a long period of injury, put them ahead with a penalty

The second half was a bit of a stalemate for the first ten minutes and Brace came close with a penalty that just dropped under the cross bar. Bangor seemed to suffer from the loss of Captain Wil Withey with a front row injury and their scrums and lineouts became more and more ragged. Menai Bridge regained the lead when Bangor lost a disrupted scrum and Bridge got the ball to outside centre David Williams for a try converted by Roberts. Although Bangor tackled well the pressure told and giving away a penalty leading to a scrum that was again disrupted, No.8 forward Gareth Parry forced his way over for an unconverted try. The last try came in injury time when Jack Owens mauled his way over in the corner for Menai Bridge and Roberts added a touch line conversion to end the game.

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 19th

BANGOR 10 - 74 FLINT

The pictures show that Bangor did try. Their only reward was an intercept try from youth player Declan Jones but they weren't helped by injuries to Gruff Tudur and Wil Withey that led to uncontested scrums. Bangor's rooky players did their best but inexperience showed in defence that let Flint in for 12 tries.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 29th

BANGOR 0 - 10 BENLLECH

Bangor fielded a young team with several youth players getting a blooding and doing well despite losing by 2 unconverted tries. Bangor played with the wind in the first half and spent most of it occupying the visitors territory but again could not find the way to try line finishing pointless at the interval.

After the turn around it was Bangor that had to defend and they did well until their No.8 Mike Evans went off injured and then the scrums started to disintegrate and Benllech got a try from such a scrum when No.8 Chris Spencer picked the ball up at the side and dove over the try line. The second came from a scrum lost against the head and Dan Snowden crossed the try line.

Bangor did have scoring chances throughout the game and could have taken this game. Young players like Declan Jones on the wing, Ivo de Jesus in the centre and Joe Adamson in the pack all did well chasing and defending but the team just cant find that way to cross the try line.

Next week the two teams meet again at Benllech in the quarter final of the Inter Cup.

OCTOBER 22 nd

HOLYHEAD 13 - 7  BANGOR

Holyhead got revenge for their defeat in the Inter-Cup in this division 3 N game. Playing with the wind and slope they should have got more points in the first half and missed several scoring opportunities but managed a good try run in from mid field with good support. their outside half added the conversion and later a penalty. Bangor were pushed aboutb in the scrum but hooker Carl Roberts did some great work hooking the ball under pressure.

Turning around at half time Bangor must have felt in with a chance and had much more possession. Outside half Dafydd Roberts put his boot to good use and Bangor created several scoring chances but errors and mishaps kept them out until near the end when prop and captain Wil Withey took a quick tap penalty and forced his way over. Roberts' conversion gave them a real chance of stealing the game but Holyhead finished with a flourish and forced a successful penalty to end the game.

SEPTEMBER 13th

N.W. CUP - INTER

BANGOR 12 - 5 HOLYHEAD

This was a lively entertaining match giving Bangor their first win in over a year. Bangor welcomed back Daffydd Roberts at outside half and Sean Williams in the centre but star player was No.8 Mike Evans who scored both tries, one in each half. Full back Craig Pritchard put in a good performance. Bangor's weakness was in the scrums which Holyhead disrupted well and resulted in them getting a push over try in the first half. Roberts converted one try for Bangor.

SEPTEMBER 10th 2011

MENAI BRIDGE 25 - 5 BANGOR

Bangor went behind by 2 unconverted tries in the first half, one from a wheeled scrum and one by the right wing. The second half didn't get any better with Menai Bridge's left winger getting two straight forward tries and then sustained a serious injury resulting in an ambulance being called. Bangor got a try after the restart when centre Huw Humphries gathered a dropped ball and ran a good 70 m to score. Menai Bridge added another try mauling the ball over the line.

The most entertaining feature of the game was the way Bangor's Dan Davies completely freaked out Bridge's Iwan Jones by frustrating all his conversion attempts with well timed charges.

SEPTEMBER 3rd 2011

BANGOR 0 - 18 WELSHPOOL

Having played no pre-season warm up games Bangor were certainly rusty in the first half when all the points were scored. Playing against the wind and rain Bangor went behind early on giving away a soft try to Ryan Griffiths converted by Daly Jones. They improved slowly but went further behind to a well worked try on the right wing by Ashley Gilboard. With the half inexplicably stretched to 50 minutes, the visitors added two penalties in the extra time.

Remarkably, after the turn around Welshpool never got into Bangor's half of the field once yet Bangor were unable to score any points despite destroying the visitors scrum and much improved lineout jumping. They came within inches of grounding the ball several times but the visitor's dogged defence was just too good.
