ERYRI CUP
BANGOR 5 - COLWYN BAY 8
SUNDAY MARCH 16rh
The overnight rain made the pitch soft and muddy and the game was mainly a contest between to packs of forwards. Bangor were missing a few players who had gone to the international in Cardiff. Elis Albutt-Morgan made his first start at full back and did well. Bangor applied the early pressure and persistent occupation of the visitors 22 m area was rewarded with a try from Ewan Roberts. Colwyn Bay then applied pressure of their own and were only kept out by good tackling with forwards Ryan Butler and Jack Owens prominent in wrestling the ball from the visitor. Jonni Hughes was just short with a long range penalty attempt.
Bangor's best chance of the second half came from a strong run from winger Jake Hughes. Charlton Davies put in some hard work in the loose and the visitors didn't look like scoring until a mistake from Bangor saw a kick ahead go to the Bay's left winger who outpaced the defence to score an equaliser. They nearly scored another soon after when their right winger took an interception but was tackled short of the line. The game continued to be forward dominated and Bangor's pack took several scrum against the head but they couldn't make much progress. Hughes just missed the uprights with another penalty attempt that would have sealed the match and just when it seemed that the game would go into extra time Colwyn Bay were awarded a penalty in front of the posts and the last action of the match was a successful kick.

WREXHAM 14 - BANGOR 19
SUNDAY MARCH 2nd
Bangor were made to work really hard for all their procession. In the first half both teams created chances with attacking rugby but failed to turn them into points. Bangor's forwards eventually started to dominate play and this led to Jack Owens gaining Bangor's first with the conversion missed. The home team hit back with a well worked try from the line out took the lead with a successful conversion.
In the second half Bangor found themselves in an unfamiliar situation and needed good secure possession in their phase play. Their second try came from serious running play which was stopped metres away from the try line and Bangor's forwards had to create further procession from several ruck's leading to Mike Roberts getting the ball down. Outside half Jonni Hughes added the conversion. The third try came from another round of forward play that put Ryan Butler in with another Jonni Hughes conversion. Now leading 19-7 Bangor looked the dominant team but got the wrong side of the referee's decisions in the last 20 minutes of the game. This let Wrexham gain their second converted try. The game deteriorated into a mess that spoiled the game but Bangor's defence held up to all that was thrown at them. The game ended with a well earned win. The man of the match was young Lawrence O'Donnell who played out of position but demonstrate will and adaptability on the wing.
There is no game next week due to the internationals. Coaches report that Bangor are progressing well but will need to improve in several key phases in preparation for several difficult games ahead.

CAERNARFON 8 BANGOR 10
SUNDAY JANUARY 27th 2008
Caernarfon became Bangor's 10th successive victory in a hard fought battle away from home. With a number of players missing through North Wales commitments and illness the younger Bangor players had to step up and they did just that to overcome a determined Caernarfon side who played aggressively to try and secure a home win. Bangor scored the first try with a powerful forward surge with Mike Roberts using his strength to get over for the 5 points. A lot of hard work from Bangor to get downfield was left unrewarded after constantly giving away penalties at the crucial moment, one of which was converted by Caernarfon for their first score. Bangor struck back with winger Jake Hughes kicking through and finishing it off for Bangor's second try to make it 10 - 3 at half time. Lewis Rushton had to leave due to work commitments which changed the game plan slightly with Jake coming in from the wing to flanker and Sam Mc Kenzie coming on at wing. A good run from Sam resulted in injury and was replaced by Rhys Bach and Ellis getting injured had Dion Mc Grath coming on at No 10. Very good defence from Bangor resulted in a yellow card for Jake who was slightly over enthusiastic in the tackle. Caernarfon struck back with a well worked try but Bangor hung on for a deserved win. Ryan Butler was todays Man of the Match playing at No 8 and led his forwards by example with his constant ball carrying and ferocious tackling.A mention to Sam and Ellis who were both injured during the game and for Rhys and Ivo who both put in try saving tackles. A good squad effort but plenty to work on for next weeks game against Llandudno

Nant Conwy 0 Bangor 36.
SUNDAY JAN 13th 2008
In terrible conditions and with the home team unable to field a full side Bangor had to adapt to 14 man rugby and against the wind in the first half. Bangor played intelligent rugby by playing the game tight. The forwards worked hard in the scrums winning the ball against the head several times. The first try came from dominant forward phases of play and Jack Owens drove hard to score under the post. Jonni Hughes converted. The second came soon after with another forward drive and Jack Owens gained his second try with the conversion missed.
With the lead of 12-nil and the wind behind them in the second half, Bangor started to dominate all phases and the opposition gave away penalties that slowed the game down indicating their frustration. Yet again the squad of young players were given the chance to experience a different style of rugby. Carl Roberts had Bangor's third try and converted by Jonni Hughes. Further tries came soon after from Iwan Roberts, Ryan Butler and Jake Hughes.
Today's man of the match was Morys Williams who played well securing all loose ball.

SUNDAY JANUARY 6th 2008
BANGOR 32 - LLANGENI 0
UNDER 16 AGE GROUP
SUNDAY DECEMBER 1st 2007
Although Llangefni had plenty of possession it was Bangor who did all the scoring. Playing into a strong wind Bangor scored twice in the first half. No.8 forward Jack Owen was very prominent in harassing the visitors and soon opened the way for outside half Jonni Hughes to score a try. Bangor scored again after a huge rolling maul and then letting the ball out to the backs. Liam Carr almost made the line but popped the ball up to Charlton Hughes for the try.
The second half was largely played in the Llangefni half and although the visitors did well to win lots of ball they were never able to break out with the wind against them. Bangor kept plugging away and the scores started to come. First Jonni Hughes went in under the sticks and converted his own try. The next try came after a linout and a clever cross kick to the far corner was touched down by centre Meurig Roberts. Scrum half Iwan Roberts had a superb game and fully deserved the next try to come. In the final minutes winger Jake Hughes caught a failed clearance and ran down the touchline

BANGOR 19 - RUTHIN 17
UNDER 16 AGE GROUP
SUNDAY NOVEMBER 25th 2007
This was a great victory over North Wales dominant side Ruthin despite several key player missing from the squad. The first half saw Bangor putting in good phases of play and they were rewarded with a try after good quick ball from the forwards to outside half Jonni Hughes who took the ball on an angle and broke the Ruthin defence to run in under the post. Hughes converted his own try.
Bangor went further ahead when the forwards developed the play and then let it out to the backs. Good centre inter-play between Meurig Evans and Llyr Roberts resulted in a tap behind the defence. Roberts was pulled back by the shirt and would surely have had a penalty try but he kept going and bravely dived on the ball for a try but
unfortunately Llyr received a boot in the face as the defender tried to kick it clear and the injury was serious enough to hospitalise him and he will be out of the game for some time. Jonni Hughes added two points and Bangor who were dominant at this stage were affected by the distraction off the field and let the Ruthin scrum half jink his way over for
an unconverted try right on half time.
The second half saw several changes to the team when Bangor brought on their younger players new to the squad this year. Despite playing well Bangor lost their dominance in the line outs and scrums. Ruthin started to play the ball out wide and found Bangor unable to cover. The visitors scored two unanswered tries and took the lead 17-14 with
five minutes to play. Bangor responded well with quick ball from a ruck and fed Jonni Hughes now playing in the centre. He ran through the defence again and though tackled short of the line Jonni fed the ball to Charlton Hughes who scored the winning try to give the home side a great win 19-17.
Man of the match was -Jonni Hughes. With more than seven key players unavailable or injured for next weeks game against Llangefni, Bangor will depend on the younger players again to take the challenge and continue the successful progress achieved so far.
Llyr Roberts who is a key player for Bangor will be unfortunately missing for several months-the whole team are wishing Llyr a fast recovery.

LLandudno 14 Bangor 38.
Sunday October 7th 2007
Today's' game was disrupted from the start, several key players weren't available or injured so the full squad was used and several younger players stepped-up to help. On arrival Bangor were informed that Llandudno weren't able to field a full team so the game continued with 13 players on each side. Right at the beginning Bangor showed the intent to run hard
and attack from the start. Jake Hughes demonstrated his pace and strength when he received the ball and ran 60 metres before being stopped just short of the try line. Bangor scrummaged well and dominated this area. Taking a ball against the head, captain Sion Kendrick picked the ball up from the base and scored Bangor's first try with the conversion
going wide.
Bangor's second try came from good back play from Jonny Hughes and Meurig Evans which resulted with Jonny Hughes scoring under the post and converting it himself. Bangor were contesting every line-out and when Rhys Owen took one from the home side, a quick ruck was formed and the ball was passed down the line for Llyr Roberts to score in the corner and Jonny
Hughes added the two point. Bangor made several changes in the second half playing Dion McGrath at fly half and switching Jonny Hughes to full back. Their dominance was maintained in all the phases and good rugby played.
Forwards supported well throughout especially the open side flanker Ryan Butler who scored Bangor's fourth with the conversion missed. Another try followed shortly after by Iwan Roberts and converted by Jonny Hughes. Llandudno seemed to receive a lot of penalties at the last ten minutes which resulted with two converted tries. The game ended with Bangor
gaining their sixth try by Jonny Hughes who successfully converted it.
The coaching staff have reported that this side are progressing well especially the younger boys who have demonstrated their commitment by attending the training sessions twice a week and it appears to be paying off. This weeks man of the match was awarded to Iwan Roberts who had an excellent game.
Next week Bangor U15/14s will entertain Colwyn Bay at home and the week after the U16/15s will play Macclesfield touring side also at home.
LLangefni 0 Bangor 14.
Sunday September 30th
With fine weather the supporters for both sides hoped for good open rugby. LLangefni started well putting the visitors under early pressure but Bangor' defence held and they started to create good phases to their game plan and managed to score two well worked tries. The first came from good clearing out by the forwards and scrum half Iwan Roberts took his opportunity to score under the posts. Jonny Hughes converted. The second try was was created by the forwards yet again charging down the middle of the field led by Jack Owens who created good quick ball to the backs and LLyr Roberts scored with Jonny Hughes adding the two points.
The second half was scoreless although Bangor attempted to play to their pattern but this was spoiled by LLangefni constantly disrupting the game and getting the better of the referees decisions. Throughout the second half Bangor fielded several younger members who did very well on their first outing with the squad and the senior members were
demonstrated good inter personnel skills which settled the younger players down. In general Bangors' captain Sion Kendrick led the team well and Jonny Hughes controlled all aspects of the game and made several good strong runs down the field supported well by Llyr Roberts.
The man of the match was Jonny Hughes.
Bangor are hoping to continue their progress next week.
Bangor 12 Pwllheli 32
9th September
Today's game was a vast improvement from last week. Pwllheli with several key members of North Wales squad available which made things difficult for the young Bangor backline. First half Pwllheli demonstrate good awareness and created good tries. Bangor continued with their forward dominance and at times displayed good inter-linking but unfortunately they
weren't able to finish off their opportunities. Pwllheli started the second half with a 22 point advantage. Bangor continued with their persistent by playing to their game plan, good strong running by Jack Owens who crossed the game line every time and with quick ball the backs demonstrated good skills. Scrummaging was non-contested from the start due to
Pwllheli unable to field a regular front row. Jack Owens picked the ball from the base of the scrum and fed Iwan Roberts who created space for the young Liam Carr to run in a well worked try, converted by Jonni Hughes. Bangor gained confidence and self-belief and started to demonstrate good inter-linking and attractive rugby which lead to the second try
scored by Captain Sion Kendrick-conversion missed. Today's performance was very good with forward dominance with Euros Thomas gaining today's' man of the match within the Bangor team. The young Bangor backs demonstrated improvement from last week which indicated that they were comfortable with quick ball and weren't afraid to try moves practiced in training.
Next week Bangor will travel to Llangefni looking for a win dearly needed by this years 16/15s squad.

CAERNARFON 8 BANGOR 3.
9th September
New season with a blend of new and old members to the squad. New members who have come through the junior section played very well and displayed good rugby. First half was very tight with both set of forwards battling each other for territory which meant the both backs weren't having good ball, score remained 0-0 at half time.
Second half was greatly entertaining by both teams playing good flowing rugby with several set phases from end to end. C,fon won a ruck phase in Bangors' 22 and moved the ball out wide to score a good try, conversion missed. Bangor applied pressure on Caernarfon winning a penalty which Jonni Hughes converted. The game continued until a serious injury to PJ
Hughes who was playing out of position and playing a good game until his injury, news from the hospital later was that PJ had broken his arm and might need surgery.
Caernarfon gained a last minute penalty to win the game. With this performance Bangor's' season is looking good and promising with the new players demonstrating good standard of rugby. All coaches were happy with today's' game , training will continue on Tuesday & Thursday evening.
Next weeks' game against Pwllheli has been rearranged due to several members away in Cardiff watching Wales V Aussies.
